Early 28 drop be shaft parts and help needed
Hi y’all
Now I’m looking for some drive shaft parts for my early 28 Roadster. I am looking for a locking tab washer which goes on the shaft rather than the pinion on the early 28 multi disc clutch. I am also looking for the thrust washer and fir the woodruff key from r the same drive shaft. Any help y’all can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Mike |

Re: Early 28 drop be shaft parts and help needed
Woodruff keys come in quite a variety of sizes. McMaster-Carr is a source worth checking on those. The only SAE type keyed lock washers that I know of are the W-series "Bearing Lock Washers". They start at W01 and some get a lot larger than a person would need such as a W24. The W is always followed by two digits beginning with zero on small sizes up to W10 but I don't know if any of them will fit the old early 1928 shaft since the nuts were on the shaft instead of the pinion. Measure the shaft and find the specs. A W05 would be close but I don't know the size of those early shafts.
I don't know of anyone that reproduces this stuff since a lot of owners likely end up changing them to the later type shaft and pinion. A person could fabricate one out of mild steel if they have the tooling to do it. The originals were likely die punched out of soft steel around 18 to 20 american standard gauge but a person would have to measure either the original or the larger A-4636 part for thickness to get a proper gauge size. I hope this helps some. Maybe someone else with an early 1928 car will have better insight. |

If you can post the inner diameter of lock plate I can confirm if the nos lock plate is early one that I have--- it came off hardware sales book that had many small parts glued to pages

I don’t have any mic’s to measure the ID of the washers but they are the same diameter as the drive shaft. Mike |
