I remember nothing about regulators, but what I do remember is this. Never use crocus cloth or body type sand paper on points. Use tan colored wood working sand paper. After the sand paper or file, use clean news paper to clean the sanding residue off the points.

Hi Kevin, thanks for the thorough information. Fortunately I haven't dug into the problem yet, and your advice should help. Ol'Don, also thanks for the tips on not what to use on the contacts. My experience is with '76s and on, so a lot about this car is new to me.

I really appreciate everyone's help. Will keep you posted.
