Electric Fuel Pump Problems is it Bad Gas
I am running electric 12V fuel pump on my flathead motor. I have replaced 3 of them in past in a month time. The pumps I have been buy are from your local part stores. I don't even drive my car that much. I was think the Alcohol that is now in the gas is kill my pumps. Does anybody know a good brand of pumps that would be great for Flathead motor? Thanks for you time.

I've been using an Airtex 6v pump for over seven years with no problems. I believe the 12v version is p/n E8012S.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Problems is it Bad Gas
In my opinion Carter makes the best fuel pumps. Make sure you are using a pump designed for carburetors. Also make sure you use a filter. Mount your pump as low and close to the tank as possible. Additionally make sure that you are using at least 14 guage wire or larger with good connections. A fuel pump is a much higher amperage draw than these old rigs are used to. Wire accordingly. I power mine using a relay so the actual power comes directly off of the battery, and the ignition switch switches it on.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Problems is it Bad Gas
This is probably off topic, but I think you may find it interesting that I am currently running a Bendix 6v pump from sometime prior to 1965 on my '40 coupe. I would guess this was manufactured around 1960. Car was parked in 1966, sat until 1985, drove it for six months, then got it running again in March of 2010. Sits more often than drives, and so far no problems, soaked in new gas. I can't believe it keeps ticking, but with AAA watching my back, I motor on.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Problems is it Bad Gas
Silly question, are you running your 12V pump on 6 V? That'll kill it.

If your pumps are not made to use with alchohol, that is probably the problem with your pumps. Gasoline with alchohol in it will ruin them. Marv

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Problems is it Bad Gas
Are we talking 6V or 12V? alcohol or ethanol? Pump should definitely last longer than a couple weeks. I've used Holley low pressure pump for over 11 years. Don't think your problem is the pump, maybe wiring or flow restriction.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Problems is it Bad Gas
I was thinking pumps made for racing fuel alchohol, should hold up with ethanhol. Regular pumps will not. Marv

Check wiring, verify your grounds.
Check for blockage in tank and lines. Make sure there's decent filters before and after pump. "Push thru paper, suck thru screen". Mount pump near and lower than tank if possible.
