Yes, because that is about all you would be buying IMO. The experience that Rich has in his head from rebuilding that many engines is likely non-transferable to the new owner, ...and from my own experiences I can tell you that there is a huge learning curve that only comes from hands-on experience and learning from your failures.

Additionally, if the new owner already has a machine shop, then most of the equipment necessary to do the work would likely be duplicates, so not much to be gain from that.

Maybe the answer to my question is in the tread above, but I don't see it. I have recently purchased a nice set of little used AER rods, USA made, with the hope of using them sometime in a future build. Is AER the sole source for the inserts?

To my understanding, yes. And I believe the main inserts also. You might try one of the vendors though. I believe Snyder’s are different. Best answer would be to call AER and ask them or order them if you know the size you need.
