Miss Victoria, when you make new timing indicaters, try to make the markings more visable. I can't read them while in the car, otherwise they are easy to fit, much better than the one available from Mac's and Snyders.

Here's mine (Wes Cooper build early '70s). I recently replaced the original 97 with an English repop and ran new steel fuel lines since this picture.

exactly! that, and motion from the engine.. bad juju.

a good flexible hose is a must here. Steel everywhere else is excellent. Aircraft use a lot of copper for fuel and primer lines but never, ever allowed to vibrate or flex.

Here is a pic of the mods I made on our roadster. The gav and choke still work as normal on the front B carb. I don't need the choke on the rear carb and the gav stays closed. It will accellerate up hill like a modern car. The fuel lines are steel , that I made up. I've always heard that copper fuel lines were bad about breaking. I used copper fuel lines in the sixties with never a problem. I've been running a copper oil line to the oil pressure gauge on my 31 tudor for twelve years. The only fuel line that I have ever had to crack is the steel fuel line on the rear carb. It was hell to make up and fit another steel line. Copper would have been easy. If it breaks again, it will be replaced with copper.

Keep an eye on that fuel regulator.. I had a simular set up on my tudor and it vibrated till the top sprayed gas on the header and burned the car! It took lots of work to get it back on the road - so carry a fire extinguisher!! Tough lesson learned... Nice setup though. Gary

I have a Simmons Super Power head on my 31 Roadster. It runs really strong. I also have a Simmons Super Power carb somewhere in my junk. Once I saw a Simmons Super Power intake on Ebay, but I missed it. The Simmons Super Power stuff was made in England I think and licensed by Chrysler to the best of my knowledge. Sweet looking engine.

I changed all the fuel lines to steel yesterday. Actually steel is easier for me to work with,as I did it for twenty years, and know all the tricks. I hate to put rubber in a fuel system any more,as ethanol rots it out in a year or two. I am learning more and more about the Simmons parts. I did not know they were made in England.

I see that you already changed out the copper. This is a company that makes something designed for auto use that might be a good alternative. It would have kept the copper look but been safer. Not cheap. But then what is.

Here is one of my Simmons super power carburetors. It looks a lot like a Zenith, except for the idle air adjust screw and it has a drain plug under the float bowl. The Simmons carbs had a high speed jet similar to the model B carbs . There was a noticeable power difference over the model A style Zenith carbs.

Here is a close up of another of my Simmons cast iron carbs. They also made a side bowl version for the 1931 models. If I run across another cast iron dual updraft manifold I will probably try running a pair of them. They are heavier than any of the Zeniths And I hesitate to run a pair of them on an aluminum intake. Simmons also made an economy alloy version that didn't flow nearly as well. I've never heard that they were made in England. Western Auto sold them under the Wizard Improved name.

Bringing back the Copper vs Steel fuel line debate.

Just replaced a Steel line on a model a that was completely rusted shut on the inside. Outside looked great and also looked fairly new. No gas could get through it. Tried blowing air through it... nothing. Finally a piece of wire broke the build up. I couldn't believe it was that plugged. I replaced it with a new steel line as that is what he had and wanted. But I think I'll keep running the copper on my v8FHs.

My guess was the rust came from the tank that plugged it.

I thought that too. But I removed the screen and looked in the tank and it was very clean. Could it also be the shutoff too? That was a little hard to turn? At any rate it's running great now.
