Elictrical Drain,part time Cut Out?
Last week the battery went dead after I forgot to shut off the master disconnect switch. I then noticed that when I shut off the engine, the Amp meter shows full discharge. If if I shut off the master switch, then turn it back on,the AMP meter shows 0. Also the AMP meter shows a normal 10 AMP charge while driving. I took the cut out cover off,and it looked burned around the upper coil terminal, where the solder was melted. I cleaned the points, and resoldered the wire, but still have the same problem. I remember when I was a teen, and driving my A as a daily driver, the cut out reg was my #1 problem. I always carried a spare. Any Ideas?

Re: Elictrical Drain, part time Cut Out?
I use the Fun projects can style voltage regulator that will replace the cut out, It looks like the replacement cut out but gives voltage regulation. You could buy one of the diode style replacement cutouts with no points to stick but no voltage regulation. The least expensive way to go would be to gut the old cut out and install a diode inside the original housing. these diodes can be purchased from Snyder or Brattons for a few dollars. Installing a diode in the old cut out is pretty easy and is trouble free if properly soldered.
