Default Who woulda thunk it?

Joyce and I were sitting at "the eating table", enjoying a wonderful Sunday evening dinner of Honey Nut Cheerios, when I looked over at her and said, it's March 5th, isn't it. She said,, "yes, why"? It had just popped into my mind that we had our first date on March 5th, 62 years ago. I reminded her of the fact and she said "you're right."

To quote the lyrics of an old song, "Ain't it funny, how time slips away? "

Love you Babe..

What a blessing that you two love birds still have each other. And a blessing that you both are thankful for each other. I don't know about the Honet Nut Cheerios though Lawson. My "Teddy" had a bowl of oatmeal and a slice of muffin toast. I had PB&J on Vienna bread with a glass of milk. Yum Yum!! Next June will be 58 for us. She was 19 and I was 20.

Yeah, but the only thing the matter with that is that I am HIGHLY allergic to steak, well any red meat. I go into anaphylactic shock, after a couple of hours, with just a bite or two. Came pretty close to dying twice before we found that out.

She hasn't eaten any red meat either since we discovered that was what was causing me to go into shock. We eat a lot at "Chick-a-Lay-Lay", as our little granddaughter Lilli used to call it. LOL Lilli will graduate college next year.

My wife's grandmother called it an "eating table", to distinguish it from what, I have no idea. That expression just pops out, occasionally. Excuse the very old Southern colloquialism.

When I visited my Grampa in the early 1950's he would listen to the 12 noon news on the radio. If I made too much noise he would threaten to put me in the "water closet." Evidently when born in 1863, he waited a very long time for a bathroom and a toilet.

I got a good "paddling" in one of those! She (the teacher) even broke the yard stick! I had it coming for sure. Probably got another at home. She is still one of my favorite teachers. Mrs. Hughes, 4th grade Lincoln School.

Your friend Mr Google will verify that term is still very much in use today.

The term "water closet" is still used today in some places, but it often refers to a room that has both a toilet and other plumbing fixtures such as a sink or a bathtub. Plumbing manufacturers often use the term "water-closet" to differentiate toilets from urinals.

I have a brother-in-law who is a retired plumber. He used/uses that term all the time.

Very nice Lawson, except for the red meat thing. We started eating pop-corn on Sun/Son/day evening as a kinda diet thing. Now it's "just what we do" God bless you two.

On our way to the doctor today the term "eating table" popped up, and the wife cleared it all up for me.

Back in the days of yore, kitchens didn't have built in cabinets and counters, etc., they just had tables and chairs. There were tables on which to prepare the food, called work tables, and a table to eat on, hence, the eating table. Makes perfect sense.
