1926 T roadster chassis question
Hi all. I'm a new member, just purchased a 26 roadster in nice original condition and want to build a street rod out of it. I'm just not exactly sure if after having the original frame boxed if it would be strong enough for either a mild small block Chevy or flathead ford V8 engine. The plan would be to fit a dropped front axle under it as well. Any guidance would be appreciated
Thank you John |

Re: 1926 T roadster chassis question
The frame boxed or not is not strong enough for what you are planning. Why not try driving it as is first, that would/could be as much fun.
Ryan want to keep this forum (Model T, A, early and late V8) to original cars and questions. If you look down the list you will see; http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ If you really want to go forward that is the section you will need to go to. |

Re: 1926 T roadster chassis question
Model T frames were design for the weight of a Model T engine and body. Also for 22 Hp. They were designed to flex on the terrain they were driven on. Boxing a T frame takes that flexibility away. A good street rod frame should be designed for the HP that would be used and enough flexibility for the way it is to be driven. I think boxing a T frame would be a waste of time and a good frame.

I'd sell the '26 T and look for an A. It is a shame to destroy an original, when so many unfinished projects are out there.
