Default 1929 Model 'A' Toolbox (Wooden Kind)

Does anyone here have a source for the Model 'A' Toolbox that came with the car. This would be the wooden one. I have 90% of the tools that go into it. Another thought would be, does anyone have the dimensions of the box and I can build it from Oak wood.

From pictures I have seen online (Yes, google was a friend here) it appears that there is velcro straps and like a foam back.

I am trying to put this together for the next car show.

Thanks!

Dave

That looks like Velcro in the photo you posted, but there wouldn’t have been Velcro in the original tool kit.

What is funny, as you can tell from the link, that is from the MAFCA site. Not sure if the Judging standards would allow that. What held in the tools on the original box. Would like to make it as authentic as possible within reason.

Thanks!

Dave

I’ve never seen an original, but maybe it would have small leather straps with buckles? That would seem more period correct.

The copy of "Judging Standards" (2011) that I have doesn't show a wooden toolbox, only a tool bag, plus the tools.

Yes tool bag to toss under seat not a big wooden box with tools neatly displayed.

The Model As did not come with a wooden box for the tools. There was a Tool Bag made from rubber cotton fabric, top material, whipcord or artificial leather. The wooden boxes you see today are used to transport the tools. When the tools are judged they are spread out on a table.

I see. I guess what I am looking for is the wooden box to transport the tools.

I have a spin-off question and/or assumption.

The bag is small so I assume the other tools were just tossed under the seat?

If under the seat the tools would just rattle around on the floor pan?

Any ideas?

My idea is to turn your hearing aids off so the noisy rattling doesn't bother you. Anyway, that is what I do.

The box shown is a display box, and I see those every once in a while with a Model-A at cruise-ins, and car shows. The vinyal tool pouch is avaialble at Snyders. The one I have is really old. My grandfather made it, he was an upholsterer. He made wing covers, and covered bomber seats and stuff for Curtis-Wright, and then Rockwell Aviation.

As I understand it, Ford made the bags from "top materials, or whatever was handy and excess at the time." There doesn't seems to have been a standard size.

Most of the repops use top material.
