Per Snyder's instructions:
You must use the 1932-34 "B" style head gasket with this cylinder head.

I use their "Premium Gasket"

Ask the vendor for the recommended gasket.

Mike I have installed this both ways. I like the Premium gasket that Snyder's sells but have had 3 on different cars blow gaskets in the last year on fresh installs. Don't really know why and they all blew in different areas. Consensus around this neck of the woods is the all copper gasket is more reliable. I still am running the Premium gasket on my coupe without issue.

I have the Snyder 5.5 head on my coupe. I installed the recommended felpro gasket twice. It seeped both times around the serial numbers on the block. I talked to an old Model A'er about the problem. He recommended using a quality copper clad Model A head gasket and to coat both sides of the copper head gasket with a thin coat of axel grease. I followed his advice. The head has been on for 6 years and about 14,000 miles with no seepage at all. Further, should you need to remove the head in the future, it will pop right off as there is no sticky sealant involved. JMO

First time I reinstalled the head on my coupe my father told me same thing. He said it is what they did. I didn't understand the science but I trusted him completely and installed the used copper gasket that way. Never had a problem with it.

I use the copper clad head gasket with lots of copper coat spray. I usually retorque hot and then again the next day cold, but I don't think that really matters. Just retorque several times over a couple of days.

That is incorrect. I run one and use a Best gasket or Fel-Pro 7013 and have absolutely no problems. Done it this way for years and have installed probably 50 this way and never had a complaint.

I understand that and didn't mean any insult. I just don't understand why a distributor would suggest something they don't have any reasonable proof of. I guess it sells a more expensive part.
