Default Where to get tough up paint?

Where are good sources to get small amounts of the gloss black and green paint for my 1931 Deluxe Coupe to touch up paint chips?

Thanks.

I’ve had success having Sherwin Williams mix up gloss enamel by color matching paint chips.

Tough -up paint? What a brilliant idea. If it could keep shopping cart scratches of your car I'm all for it.

I think it's akin to winning the lottery to find an off the shelf color to match your car, especially in full sun. Find a way to get the color scanned and have a small batch mixed. Or Conway's idea of procuring chips to hold next to your car.

The gloss black should be easy. The green will take more effort.

The only proper way to do it is to have your car scanned, meaning have a paint shop take a picture of your car. Then they can mix the paint with a computer. The camera tells them what to use for paints.

And black is not as easy as you think. There are 8 million different shades of black out there. You have to scan the black too for a match.

I'd agree, but I've had decent luck matching gloss black on a 'close enough' basis. Depends on how obvious a location the repair is as well. Near the hood latches - frequent touch up, not so obvious.

There are three other challenges that will make it difficult to get excellent results:

Fading. New paint just isn't going to look like old paint, even if the color matching is perfect.

Gloss. Almost as important as color, will show at certain angles more than others, but at the worst angle, ouch, it's obvious.

Blending. How the new paint is blended or transitioned into the old. It's an art.

If you have an actual YOM paint, or a paint code - I’ve used AutomotiveTouchup.com and TouchupDirect.com very successfully..
They can mix touchup size quantities in paint pens, fingernail type bottles, rattle cans (with good spray tips), or pint sizes. Solid colors, metallics, base/clear, or 3-stage paints. I’ve used them all.
Both of these companies are very good at matching original colors.

If you're willing to put the time in, you can match your own quite well. Start with a close green, then put a drop on a card and hold it up to the car in the sunlight. Your eye should tell you if you need more black, blue, yellow etc. Keep mixing trial and error, but keep track of what you've done so you can replicate it again. Mix it in a very small batch, maybe an OZ or less. Takes time but for small amounts you can get it really close. When done put it in a small syringe with a cap on the needle end, then in ziplock. Also can store it in the refrigerator.

If I get touch up paint for my Model A it would have to be rusty / black with a bit of WD 40 for rust protection.

These guys are great to deal with, and they have a paint that is 'rts' ready to spray. It doesnt need mixed with a hardener and has a very long shelf life.
