Default I have something that is really grinding on me

I am Ford through and through when I was a kid in the 60s all my buddies had and loved the tri-five Chevys but none of them could outrun my 312 in a 54 Ford. Now that I'm in my mid-60s my opinion still hasn't changed. I am the middle of building a 42 jail bar half ton. I have looked been looking and every jail bar truck that I can find on Facebook pininterest and everywhere else. I would say a good 80% of them are powered will small block Chevys. To me that is a sacrilege and I'm getting sick of looking at them for crying out loud at least use a Ford Mill and components in your street rods if they are Ford. I'm so into this s*** that I am going to be using an 8ba Flathead back with C4 transmission as I get older shifting those gears are not near as fun and romantic as when I was a kid but I think outrunning those bow ties in there generic surroundings should be a hoot[emoji3] [emoji2] [emoji41]

Buy a chevy powered old Ford and save it.
This is a picture of the chevy coming out. Anyone want to buy a good 283?

Michael - Well, if it makes you feel any better, take a look at my avatar. That 1947 Jailbar is powered by the original Flatmotor, 3-speed transmission and 4:11 rear. This was the First Place winner of Touring at the Golden Jubilee. While I have, like everyone else, taught the Ol' Boy some new words along the way - I have never even given thought to desecrating Henry. And, I still enjoy the shifting - especially since I am most assuredly NOT involved in big city anything.

You will spend 5x or 10x more on a flathead to maybe outrun a healthy sbc. I own both built flatheads and sbcs and the only "flathead" I've ever driven that I felt could stay with a well built sbc actually had Ardun heads on it.
My old Fords have flatheads, my brand x cars have brand x engines. I agree it is better, but thoughts of dusting off modern engines with a flathead require very deep pockets.

I would venture to say that the majority of the flathead enthusiasts aren't in it to race against late model engines. Building competition flathead engines isn't a poor man's sport but you don't have to be rich to enjoy a flathead.

I agree with all of you however I feel the important thing here is not the car or how it is set up but the fact WE are classic car lovers. We should respect what others have whether we like their choice or not. At least half my friends have classics that are non-Fords but they are my friends never the less. BTW mine does not have a flattie but it is a Ford in Ford. Just 2 cents worth from one car guy..............

47 1/2 ton panel - 4.9L, C6, 9 inch, original front axle with cross steer rack and disc brakes. (currvette master cylinder!?%#) Almost 100% Ford. Wanted a 'daily driver' with auto and A/C - located in Phoenix - A/C 'required' here!
real trucks have big inline sixes..... tree stump pulling torque.

SBC make great dump truck engines, that is if you want to adjust the valves every week or pin the rocker studs.........

I'm 37 and have been into flathead Fords since I was 16. I could care less about horsepower. I enjoy 100 hp and 60 mph, most fun I've ever had in an automobile. Well almost.....

Personally, I would not put anything but a 21 studder in my 34, but------,
an old friend when he was close to 90 years old told me---

I have referred to the back seat as the drive in movie conception chamber.
