Ford Differential's
Is there an easy way to tell the difference between a 9" Ford 3rd member, and a 9 3/8 Ford 3rd member, other than tearing it down ? There is no tag on the Diff. I have, but the rear of the housing is smooth like a 57 wagon Diff. , but the axles are 5 0n 5 1/2.. This makes me think that maybe it was a truck diff. , but I have not seen this smooth rear on trucks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, --Jim

Re: Ford Differential's
Yes, thank you very much for posting the link to the different differentials. When I got my 55 ford station wagon from my dad,( many years ago),I changed the differential cause it was geared too low.I had changed the engine to a 302 with a C4 automatic tranny and while going down the road, the 55 differential felt like it was running in low gear.
So, I got one from a 57 ford and did some changes to the driveline and it worked great. Runs really nice now with this 302 and C4 tranny. Thanks again. Mando |
