Never knew about this asbestos rort until i read this. As the owner of Joe Walshes maserati ( that apparently does 185) I would not be happy with holes being drilled in it. https://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/102...alshs-maserati GB

Skip No offence taken at all, my reply was purely "tongue in cheek". Aussies are bloody good blokes and being our "neighbours" there has always been a certain rivalry, but we both like to assert our individuality. I once mistook a Canadian for an American and got read my "pedigree" to me, albeit in a friendly way regards GB

Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
Asbestos problems in imported cars. Graeme, as you say, bringing in a bare body to Australia is going to be much easier than importing a complete car. I asked an Importer who removes the brakes before shipping the car, what he did when the car arrives in Australia. I told him that it would be impossible to get replacement Shoes etc in Australia for American cars. I asked why he didn't get new brakes put in after they removed the old brakes? He told me that all USA brake linings etc contain a small percentage of Asbestos, and once again, the new brakes would not get through when they arrived in Australia. He told me he buys new parts from companies that sell complete brakes, and gets them mailed to his home. They come through to his door, with no questions asked - go figure.

Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
Shipping costs vary.
Around $1500 USD to get it to a port from say the Mid-west. Then around $2500 USD to ship it down here. Apply the $ exchange rate, GST and other costs so you're probably looking around $5000 USD to get it into my shed. ( on top of the original purchase price ) And that's before you have started to do any work on it. Last edited by swoopNZ; 03-23-2018 at 05:40 PM. |

Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
I bought the 39 deluxe coupe and had it shipped down to New Zealand.
The new correct style floor has been fitted. It needed a better chassis which I bought locally. Work is progressing well. The seller was excellent to deal with. |
