Default She got hot last night!

We drove the Roadster about 6 miles to the next town to get hamburgers at the local pub. It is a tradition; Wednesday night = burgers at Maple Park. Last night our 22-year-old daughter hopped into the rumble seat, so we were "hauling" about 140 lbs more than usual. And we were driving pretty quick -- maybe 50 or 55. No breeze to speak of and temperatures about 90 degrees.
I glanced down at the temp gauge, which has been stuck at thermostat opening 165 degrees all summer. Even on very hot days. Wow! The needle was straight up and down. 190 degrees and a tick. I immediately started kicking myself for having retorqued the head on Sunday afternoon. Shuda left well enough alone.
I slowed down to 40, then 35 mph. The needle was still painted at 190. It was HOT in the cockpit, too.
Finally I pulled into the shade next to the pub and shut off the engine. I was opening the hood when my bride pointed out the lid to the tour box behind the front bumper. It was standing open.
I lowered it and fastened the hasp ... overheating problem fixed ... before heading into the bar to treat myself to a cold one.
Man. I do good work.
Here's a picture of the Roadster with the offending tour box.

Methinks the cold one cured the problem.. if pouring a cold coke on the carburetor can fix vapor lock, then no doubt pouring a cold beer down the driver can cure overheating as well. Perhaps the tool box should be converted into a cooler for future heat related trouble.

Sometimes having an extra set of eyes is a good thing to point out the obvious things.

I plan to drive my '29 to the local classic car drive in tomorrow night. Biggest worry is the heat as its suppose to be 90 or so degrees. Thankfully its only 10 miles away and a couple of stop lights. Would take the backway if it wasn't 20 plus miles.

The box was a prototype built for Bob Douglass. He is driving on streets of gold, now. His grandsons, five of 'em, and his son-in-law are still dodging Illinois potholes. They are very involved in Model A's. (It must be a broken gene). The Sargis clan is claimed by Fox Valley Region, MARC, Geneva, IL.
Coincidentally, Bob Douglass lived in Maple Park. 25 years ago he might have driven a Model A to the Pub for a Wednesday night burger.
The world is small ... and it spins very fast.

I know someone who kind of had the same problem. But he would drive until it started to over heat, and when he would stop, the lid of the tool box would fall back down. So when he got out, there seemed to be nothing wrong. Then, his son started leading the pack and noticed when they were driving that the box lid would fly up and block the air. Just thought i'd share.

Maple Park burgers sounds like a terrific Wednesday night destination! Is this a club event or just a Winslow thing? Room for another (cool running - no tool box) Roadster under the shade tree?
