Assembly of steering column
Hi,
I had a question, l am in the process of rebuilding my steering column. I have heard different options on installing the gaskets on the housing should l use a gasket sealer on gaskets when l assemble or do l just assemble gaskets dry. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Assembly of steering column
A little sealer on the gaskets is fine. I like to use Gasgacinch for this particular application.

Don't put anything sticky on the big cork gasket. Things have to slide for adjustment.

Re: Assembly of steering column
You may have thought of this already. The suppliers sell a bottom plate with a little tube welded to it that extends to beyond the oil level to keep the oil from seeping out of the steering box. Not sure if they are available for the 7 tooth type box or not.

They are available for the 7 tooth . Check the I D of the shaft as there are two different tube sizes .

I have a 1930 model a truck, l am going to purchase the bottom tube set-up which goes beyond the oil level. Its actually a great design. I did see just a light coat of oil on cork gasket for movement thanks for that suggestion. I will be writing a post shortly concerning steering box adjustments. Once again Thanks for all the help much appreciated! |
