FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .
Put enough miles on that a brake adjustment was in order .
Pulled floorboard and tranny cover to have better access and give it a general going over . Never asked Mike so the tranny matching frame and title was a pleasant surprise . Changed the speedo cap from a 21 to a 18 and now the speedo reads 59 at actual 60 . MUCHO BETTER as it used to read way slow . Brakes required only adjusting as Mike had all that stuff in very good order . Still has STP he ran in the steering gear and I am leaving it as it works fine . Put the NOS windshield frame that I got with it on and a nice set of top irons . Keeping all the replaced stuff of course and may eventually get them re-plated . Thinking about taking the REDS HEADERS and Smitty mufflers along with the dual exhaust off as I like quiet cars . With no Joblot anymore where do you get stock pipes now ? I have a NORS muffler that came with the car that I will use . Looking for top bows and a header for this car and also need same for a 34 roadster . Sorry bout the rambling but I am still a giddy little kid over finally getting this car . Asked Mike many times and he just laughed at me . Still missya bud and RIP !! David J Added a couple pics with side curtains on . Visibility is not good and they are a little shrunk up . Been looking into stretching them a little and old military stuff collectors tell me putting pressure on them and setting them in bright sunlight for 15 minutes. Then soak them down and when they relax put a little more pressure on and let the sun dry them . Sun is evidently for the window parts so they don't just crack-split . Sounds like it has hope but will try on old tent material first . Last edited by David J; 05-10-2021 at 02:21 PM. Reason: add stuff an bad spellin |

Mike's 1934 Ford Phaeton was one cool unrestored car as you can see in this picture. I am glad that it has gone to an appreciative new owner. |

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .
Really nice David, hope to get up for a ride this summer. Two years ago when I needed stock exhaust for my tudor the only thing I could find available was from macs. Too bad they sent me exhaust pipes for a 49 plymouth...or sumthin, cause it sure was a lot of cutting, bending, and welding to install. Hope someone has a better Idea.

Thanks to all and c'mon up Clayton - you know the way .
I am in no way up to Mikes level as he was a really good guy . Me not so much but I am looking after his car and I assumed some would be interested in how it is doing . Quote:

Here's mine. Same color? I am looking for a set of side curtains and irons if anyone has some laying around.

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .
JMFL, Side curtains are really best made to the car, tailored as it were.
Irons, if you get them will still need optimization because of pocket stability and iron curves/deviation. David J's, previously Mike's 34, is way special because it's, well, not so 'showroom.'

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .
VeryTangled, I'm familiar with Dave/Mike's car and agree its special. And I certainly don't want to hijack his thread. I was able to find a set of Roadster side curtain irons, and I have a copy of the original drawings of the rear irons that I bought from the Benson Ford Research Center at The Henry Ford. I really just need to borrow a set of old curtains to use as patterns for new ones. Mike was kind enough to send me pictures of his curtains before he sold the car. But having old curtains on hand would probably be better than pictures. BTW, mine was restored 25 years ago and is a weekly driver.

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .
Jeff is right about custom fitting them .
Mine need a stretch job as all buttons cannot be snapped . Are the 4 per side studs in the top irons there ? Those are for the long upper curtain . Youcan see them in my first 2 pics . If a safe way of doing it can be arranged these would be helpful as patterns - just be sure to allow for the shrink factor and fit the button spacing to your car .. |

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .
John ,
Will do and it is still Mikes car in my mind . Mike was a very special guy and I for one still miss him . I think it drives-rides very well myself . Mike sure knew how to maintain these . Yes on the 35 convert . I was always drooling on " Ole Blue " though so I never got a ride in it . Sure was NICE !!! Before my time my dad had a 35 convert he courted my mom in . Traded it in on a new 1950 V8 sedan . He had the 50 for 9 years and I remember it well . David J Quote:

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .
Pics from yesterday . First 2 pics are interstate park on the St . Croix River and the last pic is after I got home and finally put the NOS rr fender on . The NOS windshield frame is on the car now also . Probably not going to put the lr fender on as the one on the car is very good . The rr fender was the worst part on the car and is a big improvement .

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .
Hey Clayton ,
I can't find it either !!! Anywayz how's the leg ? How's the coupe ? That park is only 7 miles away so when you get here you can drive the Mikeymobile there if you are so inclined . A fellow barner wants the reversed eye rear main leaf so it is time to remove it and the 3 extra leaves this week . Should soften the rear ride a little . |
