Where can I get new lifters for my 337 Lincoln flathead?
I need 8 new hydraulic lifters for my 1951 Lincoln 337c.i.d. flathead. I'm replacing all on one side of the block as some are sticking. Any ideas?

Re: Where can I get new lifters for my 337 Lincoln flathead?
I don't know where you can find new complete assemblies but I can relay this information to you.
There were two different part number for the lifters. 8EL-6502-A that is .7183" to .7188" diameter 8EL-6502-B that is .7490" to .7495" diameter I'm not sure if one is an oversize service replacement for the other or not. I checked the overhaul manual and there is nothing about this difference in there. Since these are mushroom type lifters, the cam has to come out in order to remove them from the bottom side. I would check the diameters just to make certain what you have before purchasing replacements. Also, if the follower bodies are still in good condition, you can just replace the plunger assembly. You can sometimes find those new. Good luck on your search. |

Re: Where can I get new lifters for my 337 Lincoln flathead?
If the follower bodies are still in good condition for both OD wear and tappet face wear then there would be no reason to change the whole assembly. You may also find that one of the check ball valves is sticky or bad in a plunger assembly. These things are easy to test to find out if they will hold their mud. The internal plunger assemblies were the only thing I saw on flea-pay and they ain't cheap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/16-New-Valv...0J1NTw&vxp=mtr
I believe Kanter sells them by the piece for around $18. Generally you can always find the one that's giving the trouble. Many of these old cars have done more than their fair share of sitting around. This leads to all sorts of problems including sticky lifters. Make sure you mark each one for where they were located when disassembling. They should go right back in the same place to lessen the possibility of further problems. |

Hello, I checked with Egge. They have only the plunger part at $22.19 each. NAPA has no listing. Kanter has none. So far, it's only the 16 on Ebay at $200 with shipping. As we need only 8, I may have to bite the bullet and buy the Ebay ones. Maybe I'll put the extra back onto Ebay.

Fred says he has them sounds like problem solved. He came through for me when I needed door latches for my '39 p/u at a price cheaper than off shore repops and reasonable shipping as well. JMO

John..."barnfind08" is a regular here on the 'Barn. His name is Fred Wilmer. He has buildings full of NOS Ford (Lincoln TOO) parts. It is a side business which has nothing to do with FordBarn. Out of respect for forum rules, he will not answer your questions on this forum. YOU must reach out to him by sending him a PM (Private Message). So, send a PM to "barnfind08" and ask any questions. Fred WILL reply, and he's a good guy. DD

Re: Where can I get new lifters for my 337 Lincoln flathead?
If he just replaces the plungers and keeps the follower bodies in their proper placement, it shouldn't be an issue. The old Lincolns were pretty tough. I wouldn't purchase anyhting until I cleaned, inspected, & tested all the parts. If you find a clinker in one of the plunger ball valve seats that doesn't let it pump up properly, it might just blow out with some solvent and compressed air. If it holds it's mud under test, it's good to go. I've found stuff like this in aircraft engines since they have the same basic design. I generally replace the complete assemblies at overhaul though. The aviation industry can't always afford warranty issues while out flying around. For a car engine, just make sure the wear is minimal and the function under test is good. It'll be good to go.
