Radial Inner Tubes vs regular tubes
We were having a discussion on what makes a radial inner tube different from a standard inner tube. Can someone tell us the difference in them.
thanks,

Re: Radial Inner Tubes vs regular tubes
Main differences are that radial tubes are both thicker and more flexible in order to withstand the higher amount of flexing that occurs in radial tires as compared to bias ply.

Re: Radial Inner Tubes vs regular tubes
Is that to imply that tubes marketed as "radial tubes" are better quality as they are more flexible and thicker, and ideally should be used in preference to "standard tubes "whatever tire you're using?

Re: Radial Inner Tubes vs regular tubes
I got my American Classic 21" radials from Cocker. I also got their TR 135 450-21 tubes and liners. They describe their tubes as being built to their own specs and good, new rubber and heavy duty. For what that is worth I can say I have over 1100 miles on them with no issues. Tires/tubes have been broken down and remounted twice as I had the wheels powder coated at 400 miles. Bill

Re: Radial Inner Tubes vs regular tubes
My experience is in alignment with Randy, Post #2. Radial tubes are thicker. Because of the increased flexibility, radial tires tend to run hotter, although running higher tire pressure can reduce the temperature. Aircraft Spruce has tire talc which can reduce the rubbing friction wear and heat on the tubes. I don't see any harm in using the radial tubes in bias ply tires.

I have run radial tubes in my bias ply tires for almost 10,000 miles without a flat or leak until last week where one tube developed a pin hole along a rough section of the rim after 10,000 or so miles. Keith

Is there any negative to using Talc? I assume that if used on Aircraft tires that there is a good reason. Where are these radial tubes made? |

Re: Radial Inner Tubes vs regular tubes
One of our club members installed bias ply tubes in his radial tires.. It was a disaster. At least 6 of them failed. The flexing of the tire rubbed holes in the tubes to the point they failed.

Neat video! The commentary was very humorous. It is sad though, that we have given away our manufacturing and are now plagued with products we can't depend on. |
