pieced axle shaft
here is a new form of sustainability. One of the previous owners ruined the thread of the axle shaft on one side by improperly removing the hub. The lathe operator did a good job. The connector is a 5 mm precision cylinder tube 30cm long, shrunk onto the stub shafts. Drilled 8x diameter 12mm x 7mm deep crossed and spot welded. After welding 0,0059 height difference, reduced to 0,0012 under a hydraulik press. Important, don`t forget to put on the half carrier before shrink the tube

Re: pieced axle shaft
My Grandfather was a real jack of all trades. During WWII he broke an axle in his 1930 something International truck. No parts were available due to war efforts. The factory he worked in allowed him to come in after hours and fabricate a new one. Dad said he was so amazed at this as a young boy. He said Grandfather worked all night on it but came home the next morning with an identical new axle to match the old broken one.
