Default Woodie shop burns

The Woodie shop of Mike Nichols, near Traverse City MI., burned to the ground today resulting in a total loss. Those of us who knew Mike and Lana, knew of the 55 years of effort to become one of the top Woodie restorers in the country. A sad ending with the loss of some customer cars, his personal award winning '34 Ford Woodies, loads of templates and materials and his collection of Automobilia.

Mike's shop was packed with several Woodies and other projects, what a loss. Please keep us informed.

Oh boy, what a loss. Mike's work is first rate and having been to his place, I can only imagine how extensive the loss must of have been as his main building is very big and as I recall, a long way from the nearest fire station.

I only had contact with him at Hershey but he was quite helpful to me by selling me some metal pieces he made for the slider window channels I was missing. I feel really sorry for what he is going through, with customer vehicles involved, it will surely get ugly.

Tom,

Apart from the catastrophic loss of his own vehicles, his tools, building, work in progress, and a huge inventory of hardwood, normally there are cars of customers there and as you note, that can turn ugly.

Always in the back of my mind... No amount of fire extinguishers or safety measures can be 100 %. My heart goes out to him. God Bless.

Terrible news. I often think about putting a sprinkler system in a garage.
