Default oil pump

I read that there is a different oil pump for the b engine. How can I tell the difference? I was given a pump along with the b block and the guy that gave me the block got them in a yard cleanup.

The model B pump shaft with the gear on the bottom is less diameter than an A shaft . The body is cast and has a rough finish . The oil outlet are two vertical slits each side . I think the A has round holes not sure I dont have one to compare .

Somewhere I saved a photo of 7 or 8 different "Earl" pumps side by side from early 28 to 1933.

Amongst the odd array of old Ford parts I acquired was a large bucket of oil pumps. On inspection, I found that those with the vertical slits for outlets had the Model B undercut main shaft and those with holes for outlets had the Model A uncut shaft. I assumed that this was a means of differentiating the two.

Otherwise, there is no telling what could have been mixed around or modified over the years. I have found various modifications: enlarged intake and outlet ports and pumps modified for pressure by brazing in passages at the upper end, fabbed-on pressure relief valves, etc.

The "turned down" section of pump shaft was 1/2 turned down to .410 as I remember.

Note: Berts stocks the A-6600 .500 shafts which are turned down to .410 per original Service Bulletin dimensions.

Fit and functionally, the Model "A" oil pump with all service bulletins incorporated and Model "B" oil pumps are the same.

One telltale feature is that the Model "B" pump has a rectangular oil outlet in contrast to the Model "A" oil pump which has a round outlet.
