Default Gas gauge for a 1935 ford coupe

I want to install the original gas gauge assembly for my 1935 ford coupe. Can anyone refer me to a description of how to install it and a source for the necessary parts. From what little I know, it is not a trivial process to get the gas gauge to work. Now what I am doing is making sure my tank is at least half full. Thank you for any advice that you can give me.

If you search this web site you will likely come across several postings with questions and answers regarding the 35 fuel gauge . Not sure what you need but Third Gen Auto and Southside Obsolete, both have web sites. can often supply parts.

The gauge has to have a open path between the glass tube and the hex brass fluid storage tube. If you put some alcohol in the hex tube it should show up in the glass tube. It is good to find some of the Ford red fluid used for the gauge since the stuff sold by many suppliers will turn clear when exposed to sunlight over time.

The fuel gauge in our '36 PU is actually very accurate. Of course it is of the electric resistant variety.

Do they look all that different from a '35 gauge? I don't recall off hand.

Maybe that would be an option if you can't get the red liquid tube gauge to work the way you want it to.

Good luck.

Unless you've changed a bunch of stuff, this is not correct. Electric Ford gauges used the "King-Seeley" system, which to simplify it, is a series of different frequency pulses to the gauge.

The visible portion of a '35 gauge is a vertical glass tube with gradations on either side of the tube. The '36 gauge has a conventional dial face.

Are the 32 to 35 gas gauges and associated components the same or are they slightly different?

The ONLY components that are the same or interchangable are the sight tube line and brass hex which are all connected. When I used to repair these gauges I would take apart the '35's cause they were cheap and use those parts to fix the '32-'34's.
Here is an incomplete but the fuel unit looks intact, on EBAY now.
