36 Woodie headlight gasket question
So my Woodie has never had the nice convex headlight lens until today, when I received them in the mail from Mac's Antique Auto Parts.
I also bought the "Headlight Lens to Bucket Gasket" but don't know where to install it- does it go between the new glass lens and the outer chrome ring? Or does it go between the new glass lens and the metal ring holding in the headlight itself? The attached photos hopefully give you an idea of what I am asking. Thanks! |

Re: 36 Woodie headlight gasket question
Unless you are using reflectors and bulbs, the gasket is not needed. The cork gasket goes into a slot in the reflector and fits to the lenses and trim ring.

Re: 36 Woodie headlight gasket question
I'm not using reflectors and bulbs- the actual headlight is the more modern enclosed type. I guess it was added before I got the car?
So maybe I have to buy the following conversion kit? http://macsautoparts.com/early-v8-fo...0R3CHL1073840/ |

What exactly do you need? I took sealed beams off my 36 and installed reflectors with halogen bulbs and original glass lenses. I have the sealed beams, trim rings that they sit in, clips and the headlamp rims.

I guess since posting my question yesterday I have realized that I want to do what you did, dean333- take off the sealed beams and put original glass lenses back on. I bought the big convex lenses thinking they went over the sealed beams somehow, and that's why I originally asked about the gaskets. Now I need to buy the reflectors and halogen bulbs. Correct? Is Mac's Antiques a good place to buy? (http://macsautoparts.com/early-v8-fo...0R3CHL1073840/) |

Re: 36 Woodie headlight gasket question
I wouldn't buy from Mac's. I bought a kit with reflectors, sockets, cork gaskets, halogen bulbs and park lamps. The park lamps have an extra wire if you want to add turn signals later, which I did. [The turn signal kit I bought from C&G had the wiring loom for the park lamps which plugged right into the extra wire that came with the park lamp] 36's originally had the headlamp bulb AND park lamp bulb. I think Mac's conversion kit is lacking the park lamp bulb. Email Dave at [email protected] for the conversion kit with or without park lamps. Very good quality.
