Default Gas Gauge Frame Change Noted

Thought I'd document something I haven't seen discussed on here.

While repairing the gas gauges in two of our '31 A's I ran across an interesting change in the design of the gauge frame: the addition of a lug which fits into a corresponding slot in the gauge flange. Our early '31 gauge/tank do not have these while our late '31 does......and a handy change it was as the gauge assembly cannot rotate while the outer nut is tightened. The change was documented in the Service Bulletin for April 1931 - see page 555.

Interestingly, there is no mention of the change in the Judging Standards, though clearly the use of the "proper" gauge frame is not something that could be judged. I say "proper" as the Service Bulletin describes the use of the older style gauge frame in a newer style tank and vice-versa.

Yup - I see that lug mentioned on page 18 of Part 3 of Steve's excellent documentation.
