Default 35 Ford lock disassembly

I managed to find a NOS lock and key for my 35 Ford. I tried to pull handle out after removing the two outer screws so I could start disassembling the assembly and get access to to door lock barrel.
The handle would only go so far out 1/8" and then stop. I gave i ta few taps with a hammer but no joy. Is there something like a cir-clip retaining it that I can't see ? I didn't want too get to ham fisted so stopped.

Any voices of experience.

This is the passenger side on a 35 3 window.

Thanks in advance.

There should be a set screw that is accessible when you open the door. If the lock comes out 1/8", you may have loosened the set screw, but not enough.

As mentioned above you don't have to take the door handle off to take the lock out. If you do want to take the handle out you have to turn it about 1/4 turn to permit it to pull out. There is a turned down section on the square shaft that interlocks with the latch mechanism.

As v12 Bill said.....Look at the jamb edge of the door.Just above and to the right of the dovetail ,there should be a hole about the size of a pencil. Inside the hole is a set screw.I'm guessing yours is the same as mine although mine is a '36.

So nice when it is simple. A screw was in there holding the old one in. I unscrewed it and pulled old one and installed new one. Square rod was a little longer but I won't bore you with "how do I make it shorter " thread ;-).
It is so nice when it is simple (which isn't too often in my life!).

Thanks again!

If the proper screw is beat up bad you can replace with a long Allen set screw. Makes the tighting eaiser. 10-24 I think.
