Re: kp
It's been 40 years but, as I recall, when you unbolt the towers from the cowl, the chain develops slack and is easily removed from the little wheels. Take photos before you remove anything and on't lose the little springs and things. Don't "force" or Z"pry" anything.

Re: kp
kp: I never removed the tower shaft so can't help on that. Are you sure you need to remove the shaft for chrome plating? Can't the plater tape it off or cover it in some way so that only the front part of the tower is plated? Rather than get my originals rechromed I bought a set from BOB DRAKE about 35 years ago and they still look and work fine. Less expensive than rechroming also.

Re: kp
Years ago I did have some towers rechromed and disassembled them. The shaft that the arm bolts to is pushed into a sprocket the chain goes around and has tight fitting splines. If you make a puller to pull outward pressure on the shaft it will come out of the sprocket with the chain and both will fall out the bottom. I think I used washers and the threaded part of the shaft to accomplish this.

Re: kp
Thanks for all the replies ,may just let the plater cover the inside part ,only needs outside part plated .
