I have a exhaust leak around the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe..the manifold is new and i took the muffler to a muffler shop and had it fitted..i used the copper and the fiber gasket,,this works for a while but it's a constant problem

an exhaust sleeve will help you with this problem... had to put one on the roadster

also you can use a little bit of exhaust sealant but it tends to get messy

I use the sleeve and a carefull aplication of exhaust sealant paste. The copper/fiber gaskets are a waste.

if your muffler is one of the older poor reproduction mufflers, thats the problem. If its one that was made to the Ford blueprint and does not fit, its because the manifold is sagging too far for the flange to line up correctly. Sleeves can be used, but considering the repros were more restrictive in the first place, robbing about 7% of the horsepower, further constricting the diameter of the pipe will probably not do anything to improve the breathing.

Here's an inexpensive fix I have read about. Fold aluminum foil in one inch strips and put a few layers around the joint between the tail pipe and manifold, then put the clamp over the whole deal... once you have tightened it, you can trim the excess foil with a utility knife. Also, make sure you have the clamp on with the right flange upward... they are different in size. It's worth a try and costs you just a little time.

Just came in from a 100+ mile Cruise with Momma and I have had the same chronic exhaust noise since I installed a new Lebaron-Bonney muffler back in May. I did use the Gland Rings and the Pipe Sleeve along with the Exhaust Sealant. I don't know if there is a leak at the Manifold or the Muffler/Manifold connection. It just seems to be louder than other Model A's.

I'm actually considering re-installing the old muffler. All It just needs is a new heat-paint job.

Met another couple on the River Road (Perrysburg, Ohio) this afternoon with a Model A. I noticed them coming up behind me so at the nearest convenience I pulled over and they pulled in behind me. They have a Tudor that was original for the most part. Really a neat car. The fella seemed to be very knowledegable about the A. Nice couple. Exchanged names etc and hope to be able to get together with them later.

Seems most all Model A folks are freindly.
