Car or truck? If I'm not mistaken '49 car pumps were narrow belt but the trucks were still wide belt. For new pumps try Carpenter's. Or if you have cores send them to Skip Haney in Florida and have them rebuilt. Note: not sure if Skip is up and running after the hurricane. One other thought,

early Merc OCM car pumps were wide belts.

The '49 car pumps were wide belt, and the same used on '53 trucks, except the truck castings were not always drilled for the car's lower two mount bolts.

Maybe check with Michael Driskell at Third Gen Automotive. I like to support small business and he's a heck of a nice guy too.

1949 water pumps are different from 1950.
Most (all) original 1949 water pumps had oil caps over the bearings, 1950 does not.
1950 pumps will fit your 1949. 1950 pumps had sealed bearings, and to have a 1949 pump rebuilt you need to have the 1949 water pump rebuild kits, otherwise they will send you 1950 pumps.

Good to hear. I was going to ask how he made out after the storm. Need to send him a pair of pumps.

As a user of Skip's pumps, I have to agree with the above statements.
