Save the trouble. Order spray cans from Snyders or Macs. I have found both to be a perfect match.

I dont like the spray can paint. It only last for so long and it doesnt look as good. Spray can paint jobs really last about 5 years at the most without looking like it needs to be redone. I drive my cars alot, and the automotive paint holds up a whole lot better, and makes a nicer job out of it.

Paint code would be great to know, especially since shipping paint to Alaska is usually not the easiest thing to accomplish.

They also have it premixed in pints for sure if that suits your purpose.

Logan next time you are over check out what Miles and I did with Ford engine green.
We had no number or code to go by, but I had a paint expert buddy of mine hand-match the shade from the spray cans. He made it up in a super DTM (direct-to-metal) 2 part urethane brand called Baril. DTM needs no primer (you never use primer on heads and blocks anyway) and adheres directly to the metal. It is an industrial product. Miles has shot many engine parts with it for you to look at and my Snyder 6.0 is sitting here wearing it. It is extremely durable and rugged and looks like we just shot yesterday. We have used this product for many other applications as well. All his black parts you saw were done with black Baril

Years ago I bought a spray can, sprayed some on a flat metal sheet, and matched the color with Rustoleum. 2 parts hunter green, 1 part royal blue, 1 part gloss black. Some of my engines have been painted for 40 years and still look great. I clean my engines with WD40.

Roy Nacewicz has the correct formula. I believe he matched it when he worked for Ford.

Anyway, it matched some NOS parts I have. www.fordbolts.com

There is a PPG number. I am a former PPG auto refinish jobber. I will check at the shop tomorrow.

Glenn mentioned cleaning his engine with WD-40, and I've been doing the same thing for many years. It also helps to keep unpainted parts from rusting. Here's my 50 Champion engine that I bought last year. The first thing I did to make it look better is sprayed it with WD-40 and wiped it off. It also cleaned years of dirt off the hoses. I also made a correct steel vacuum line to replace the copper one someone made. I used 3/16" steel brake line for this.

If you are speaking of the 5-page list of colors from PPG Automotive, I can scan and send you another copy however Ford Engine Green is not on that list. Since I do not have mine mixed in PPG, a formula probably would not help you but if you have your PPG Paint & Refinish Book ...and your paint jobber has a paint spectrophotometer, they can scan it right out of the book's chip.

What a great idea. I just tried WD-40, and it worked great. Thanks for sharing.

I have had good luck with engine spray can paint. The key to a good job is to clean the metal to get all the grease and dirt off. Use heavy steel wool and solvents, then wipe down with a lint free rag. Then use a metal prep to etch the surface so the primer gets a good grip. Epoxy primer is best. Then spray three coats of the engine green. Hopefully, you haven't got the cylinder head on yet so the copper gasket will show after you are done. One final step after the paint has dried. I take a rag and with your finger, dip the rag is some wheel bearing grease and rub it into the head gasket area all around the engine. This prevents the seepage from the gasket getting in contact with the cast iron. This is where the corrosion will start on a nicely painted engine. I do this at the start of the touring season each year. Wipe off the excess with a clean rag. My Model A engine was painted six years ago and it looks just as good as the day I finished it. Ed

Who and where is actually buying this green in a spray can? Everyone seems to be out. On back order and some saying it won't ever be again.

I just bought a pint from Snyder’s last week. I thought about spray paint, but the pint will probably suit my needs better.
