Default rear brakes fixed

I want say thanks for all the help and suggestions concerning my rear brakes. I just finished putting them back together the way Ford meant them to be. Wow, what a difference. If I had realized that they were on the wrong side with parts from each side intermingled, I could have saved a lot of time from the beginning. Now, when I adjust them and the e-brake, they’re going to be correct.

I’m going to pull those front hubs and see what’s up there.

Who knows what I’ll find?

Mike

I just woke up after another nap, and my forearms are aching like all get out. When I was tightening those 8 castillated nuts holding the backing plates on, I had to lineup the slots and holes and always went tighter instead of loosening them.

When am I going to learn that there is a young man’s way and an old man’s way?

Crap, it’s no fun having what feel like toothaches in the bones of your arms.

Mom and Dad would have said, ”Quit bitchin,’ there are people without arms.”

They were right, I’m sorry,

Mike

No pain no gain! Glad you got it all figured out and curious as to how well it improved your brakes. Yes i would pull the front drums and have a look - good time to repack those wheel bearings and inspect them as well. (never ending maintenance is there?)

Congratulations on getting that accomplished! Those mechanical brakes are really something! Sorry you ache. I think we all feel your pain.

Not too tight on the parking brake. Three clicks on the lever is about right.

I told my son, "start acting like an old man if you ever want to make it to be an old man". I went on a little more with my explanation so he'd get the point I was trying to make.

Man, I go into Walmart and see all these men hunched over and acting like they’re twenty years older than they actually are, and I want to go over and pull their shoulders back and lift their chins up. I don’t, but it is hard not to. They must not have had a mother like mine. “Head up. Shoulders back!” Was something I must have heard a thousand times.

Thanks Mom,

Mike

I have a friend that walks like that, bad back, bad hips, bad knees and
over weight. He just tells people he is looking for money on the ground.

Good to hear everything is back in order. Not that this mess was any of your doing Mike, but now is a good time to remind guys to research and take pictures before diving into unfamiliar projects (or even familiar projects).

I agree wholeheartedly about taking photos. A few digital pics cost absolutely nothing yet can save lots of grief. When I dismantle something I haven't done before, I lay everything out like an exploded view and take pictures. I even write a note with some detail that won't show on the picture and put it in the picture alongside the relevant part so it appears in the picture too. I've learned not to trust my memory and trial and error is mostly error.
Also handy to show others what you have done.

While on tour and we have a Break down, we always say "what a wonderful problem to have. Think about all those people who can't possibly play with these old cars. Take time to stop and smell the grease.
