Default ’32 Emergency brake lever mounting dimensions

On my ’32 Roadster project, I have a ’39 top loader set-up, and need to fabricate a mounting bracket for the brake lever. Need help on obtaining the original hole location that comes with the original shifter. I have the original ’32 brake lever and want to keep the mounting dimensions true to the ’32. Thanks in advance….Robert

I did that by having a local job shop ( Machine Shop) od that for me. I took both the 32 top And the 39 top and he did an excellent job. jm2csw.

OK... Here are some dimensions that I measured a couple of years ago.
Both holes are 3/8-16 NC. Center of the holes is 7/16" above the bottom of the trans top. Face of the bosses is 1-3/16" outboard of the center of the right side trans top screws. The two holes are spaced 3-15/16" and the forward hole is 1-3/16" to the rear of the front trans top screw. Hope this makes sense and helps.

PeteVS.....this is what is called 'Professional Deformation'.....all of my work on the cars are done on the drawing board. What is important about your sketch are the dimensions...what works, works. Now, I have to 'design' the bracket ( on paper ) and try to make a neat part.
My first car 50+ years ago was built using 'bed angle iron'.....hummm...there's an idea. PS....don't throw that away..............Robert

Robert: I have another sketch that I had made using a flat plate to be held by the shifter top screws. It was to have two notches that would have had two pieces welded in to have bosses exactly where the '32 mounting parts are located. I opted for the bed frame angle solution because I wanted to drop the lever a bit. I set up a lever system as shown and wanted the actuating rod down low to get the lever under the torque tube.

Pete Interesting you show the emergency brake levers at the drive shaft ends. I was actually thinking of using the original mechanism that come with the '32 K-member....now all I have to do is to find it. This is a piece that shows up often for sale, and there are no buyers. Maybe we could come up with something interesting here. Now, where ta hell did I put that thing away? Robert

The description of using angle iron and welding on threaded bosses for the original Emergency brake handle sound just like the one I had made. I think My son may have a copy of it. It used the cover bolts to mount it. Nothing original modified. Kerk

My brother threw out the brake cross shaft ages ago and the rear end spent a couple of years outside, torque tube up. I'm not anxious to open that up! This rear is out of a '48 Merc he got back then. My main desire was to get the cable equalizer on the center line of the car. I don't know if you can get that with the '32 cross shaft. I'll have to look at the one I bought a few years ago to see if that would work. I think that Richard Lacy sells a set up that uses a cable through a steel tube to get the equalizer on the centerline with the handle off to the side.
