As stated in the YouTube, problems trying to do in situ. Getting access, designing a mechanical device, ignoring the repair of the throw out shaft, PITA!
Ignoring inspection of rest of drivetrain, and the great unknowns, all lead me to the methods I used out of the vehicle.

I would discourage anyone from attempting to replace a pedal shaft with the bell housing in the car. There is a good chance you will paint yourself into a corner. If the pedals are that sloppy, replace the bushings in the pedals and wait unit you have to replace a clutch and then with the bell housing out of the car, replace the pedal shaft along with the clutch release shaft and install new bushings in the bell housing.

I agree with Tom, anything that will not require you to unnecessarily pulling the engine is a good thing to try. Also, after you have bushed the new pedals and things are still looking a bit loose on the old shaft, get on the internet and purchase a package of brass shim stock and do a custom fit of the pedals. After greasing everything, I don't think you could tell if you put in a new steel shaft or not! Ed

I did a complete tear-down of my coupe, and upon removing the pedals saw significant wear on the shaft from both pedals. However, the bushings showed no sign of wear. I replaced both shaft and bushings. With bell housing on the bench, removing the shaft pin took some serious effort, but after that the shaft slid out easily--no need for Bob's well-designed threaded pusher.
