Wire wheels on a 36

I have a 1936 Humpback, would like to put wire wheels on it. what parts do I need to change in order to make 35 wire wheels fit my 36? Rear Brake assy? Wheel hub? Brake Drum? Will the 36 spindles fit 35 Brake assy parts? Any help would be appreciated.

Do you still have the mechanical brakes? If so you need a complete set of '35 drums w/hubs. You can use 40-48 rear drums on the '36 rear but wire wheel supports required. For the front because of the spindle you will have to use the '35 drum.

Isn't there something "unique" about 36 spindles and drums, deeper or spindles longer??

'35 and '36 spindles are the same.In '37 the change was made.

With respect, '35 and '36 spindles are not the same. The '36 spindles are shorter and the spacing between the tie rod attachment point and that for the drag link is wider.

Oops ,sorry. So the 35 drum will not adapt to a 36 spindle?

DD,I am aware of that difference. David says that the 36 spindle is longer that the '35. I wonder by how much?

OK Sheldon, here's the info that I have. The 1935 SNOUT measures 5-3/4" from back plate surface to END of snout...1/4" LONGER than 1936. The 1935 tie rod & drag link holes are CLOSER together (about 1-5/8" O.C.) than on '36 arm.

The '36 spindle SNOUT is 5-1/2" from Back Plate surface to tip of snout. 1936 tie rod and drag link holes are WIDER separation than 1935 holes on steering arm.

It looks close enough that it might work. I'd at least try it, but then again, I'm more of a "Hot-Rodder" than a "Restorer".

Look again CAREFULLY! The LENGTH of the "schnozz" is not the whole story about spacing. If you'll pay attention to the surface that the seal rides upon, and that the inner bearing bottoms AGAINST, the one on the left in this picture (1935) appears to be wider by an 1/8th inch or more, spacing the bearing farther out from the backing plate. GOOD picture comparison! DD

The 'given' fact here is that the wire wheels ain't gonna fit on 1936 drums! That implies that '35 or '40-ish drums will need to be swapped on front, as well as on the rear. I BELIEVE the REARS ('35 OR '40-ish) are a bolt-on to the tapered rear axle.

Here's the front spindle dimension comparison. Oops, I got my B dimension reversed 1935 should be 5 11/16" and 1936 should be 5 7/16" Sorry about that.

Brian, I thought you, or maybe it was someone else here, had confirmed this fit up would work in the past.
Did you have any issues getting the spindle nut to go on far enough for a cotter pin to insert properly, or did you need to tweak something to make it work?

Reason being because of the rod brake setup; much the same as 35...same as 35 front drums are a one off year
