I'm looking for a book that will guide me through reassembling a complete motor from a short block, would this be a good book for me to buy?

Mike

I was unaware of your above comments and when I saw the pre publish add for your book on Amazon maybe 3 months ago or so, I ordered it. Once I got it on Saturday and quickly looked thru it I knew I needed to pass information about it along here on the Barn. It is a great book and I will take it next Monday to my Early Ford V-8 meeting.
It is a great book and as someone said, The photo on the cover is worth the price.
My thanks to You & Vern for a job well done and all of the V-8 fans who supplied you with pictures, etc.

Just got mine, and have only begun to dig in. Pictures are I think higher quality and hence more informative than those in any other Flathead book I can think of...just the block cutaways are worth the price of the book!
From wha tI see at first glance, I think this is going to be the go-to book for flathead libraries, and the one beginners will need to buy first!

Mike: How could you negotiate a deal with a publisher without a clause that provides a substantial piece of the action for the sales of the 800 pound gorilla (Amazon) or any other seller? If you negotiated a flat fee for the book, how can you complain about others selling it? This is not your first rodeo. I would think the price you guys pay for it to resell, along with the minimum price any other reseller would pay would be written in the contract. Maybe i'm wrong
Respectfully,...jack

I agree, get it from Mike & Vern, now that I hear the story behind it. How does Amazon get hold of something like this when it is being sold by the authors. MIke, do you and Vern have some exclusive distribution arrangement that Amazon is skirting around ?

I found two copies on the shelves at Book-a-Million yesterday. I'm about halfway through it. So far some useful tips and great shots on porting. I never knew about the little guy getting the shaft from mega-corporations, but I'm not surprised.

Just ordered the new Flathead book and the restoration booklet, should be good reading while waiting between varnish coats, Scott.

Jack-

It sounds like the book was basically sold to the publisher for an amount described as a "super-friendly flat dollar figure." I could be very wrong, but I would think if that is the case the publisher owns the book (not the authors) and can do whatever he/she wants to do with the book which I presume is wholesaling it to others to sell. Or, was there some other understanding in the contract regarding market price that is being ignored?

Learned something new from this book! On page 196, the top right photo shows a distributor with an 'O'-ringed port "which directs oil to the vacuum brake"! And here all the time I thought that was a vacuum supply port. Silly me!!

I'm glad to see that the book is well received. It was an enjoyable albeit exhausting project.

Vern and I operate as individual agents; we don't share individual sales. I'm working on my own website, but in the meantime one can buy the book directly either with a check or money order for $36.00 . . .
