Default Temp sender question

On a single unit sender, cold, should there be continuity between prong and ground? What about the two unit sender? Temperature guage will not read. Wiring is all new and even a NOS guage does the same. There is continuity between the wire on manifold to the guage. As I said, all wiring is new as the car has been restored. Grounds are also good, Confused!

Yes. Should be continuity between single terminal and ground when cold. But not the two prong sender. That continuity should be between the two prongs up until boiling temperature when that one opens, breaks the circuit, and sends the gauge to maximum hot.

If you disconnect any sender the gauge should go to hot. Grounding any terminal should send gauge to cold. Does your wiring and gauge work like that?

Is there current to all wiring clear to the single unit? The current goes to gauge first, then through the two prong sender to the single prong where it's grounded incrementally to move gauge.

Try all of that and report back.

Thanks for the info. The two prong unit was defective, had no continuity across the prongs cold. Thanks again Prof. BL in NH
