Hagerty Car Insurance
I just purchased more antique car insurance from Hagerty Insurance, this time for our 1931 Model A Ford pick up. The pickup was added onto our present car policy that has already has ten cars on it. The pickup's serial number was given, as was its insured value of $8K, plus the approximate mileage of 500 mile/year was given. They then lowered my new over all premium by $28 a year. With the next renewal, I will have a credit waiting for me. Hagerty are good people! Buying more insurance and getting a refund at the same time will take some getting use to, but I can easily adapt.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
That is good to hear thanks for forwarding. I have Hagerty and Grundy both. Good folks to work with.
Sounds like I need to combine them to just one company. |

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
I insure with JC Taylor. It'a always been one money for any number of cars. They told me that I can only drove one at a time, so multiple cars don't cost any more than one car.
I only carry liability insurance. |

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
That’s nice, but what will $8,000 get you if your truck is stolen or wrecked. You need it insured for at least $12,000, probably more. You’ll never get it repaired for the amount under $8,000 that’s the totalled amount. JMO

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
Have an accident and see how they treat you. My '55 Chevy was broadsided 10 weeks after i bought it. I was sick over it, and the hag's team were out to lunch....calls never returned, i was in the dark until Farm Bureau took over. The guy that hit me had Farm Bureau, and they held my hand through the entire ordeal. Daily calls and an offer of a rental along with $25 per day for my troubles. Maybe if the accident was my fault the haggers would have been more human, but after that, i dropped them like a bad habit and went with American Modern. You don't know how good your insurance is until you have a claim.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
It is true that you never know how good your insurance is until you have an accident. Cost alone is not always an indicator. I would like to know how Hagerty responds to your post. From what you have said, I am not sure I get that warm and fuzzy feeling about them.. Has anyone else had a negative experience with them?

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
Up until now we've heard nothing but good things about Hagerty. I hate to see someone register a grudge and then people start with "I'll never buy anything from Hagerty" without hearing the whole story. I can understand Fritznbud being upset that Hagerty didn't respond to his calls, but as far as I can tell, the damage here was paid for. Who knows what Hagerty did behind the scenes? Usually insurance companies do talk to one another.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
I tried to get the 10% discount they advertise for theft preventatives and got a cold shoulder from the rep and had to pry the info on how I go about it and he still gave me very little info but a great big "Cold Shoulder"!! It left me with a real bad taste.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
MMM good thread as I just visited with my State Farm agent yesterday for a review of all my insurance needs. I told them I need to go elsewhere for the Model "A". Not meant as a threat, but reality. Somehow through time I "thought" I had replacement insurance of $20,000. Several years ago I realized it's insured for a declared value of $13,000. Current market price. My agent was nice but said matter of factly that State Farm is NOT in the antique car game. Something I learned years ago from a seasoned insurance adjuster is no matter who your insurer is ALWAYS go directly to the exclusion page. That's the meat and potatoes of your policy.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
But State Farm is in the homeowners insurance business, and that means (sometimes) antiques doesn't it? What makes antique cars any different? All I can think of, they don't want the exposure. People don't park their Chippendale dining set in the street after all, they don't have trees fall on them, drunk drivers etc.

I have Grundy, I like them because unlimited mileage and they paid full insured value and you can buy your car back if you want.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
Was it a local AGENT that did you wrong?
I have heard NO PROBLEMS with Hagerty prior to this revelation. Hagerty paid VERY QUICKLY and generously following SANDY hitting Long Island, too. |

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
I have had Hagerty for about twenty-five years. Had a claim that they took care of very fast. Another situation where I was in a bind (not their fault) they went beyond normal and took care of it when time was critical. I'm more than satisfied.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
NEVER heard of a problem with Hagerty. They are top notch in my book as well as several thousand others. I have known several people who had claims and Hagerty delivered instantly and as promised. I use them myself and recommend them to all of my customers.
Grundy has a great reputation as well. |

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
This is how the above claim should have played out.. After calling Hagerty the agent responds, Sorry for your accident, I understand that the other driver has been charged and are at fault for the accident and damage to your collector vehicle that is insured by us. We will contact the insurance company and get a status on their response to this claim, but be assured if there is any delay or deficiency in the repair of your vehicle at the place of your choosing, we will repair or pay the agreed value to you. A statement such as this will help you when there is a potential loss, and put your mind at ease.. It is the right thing to do.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
Thank you Holdover, That's all it would have taken by the agent, to put my mind at ease. I did my own footwork and contacted Farm Bureau in NC after promised "we will get back to you asap" calls to hagerty. I never heard from hagerty again.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
After hearing good things, I insured my Model A with Grundy for several years, never having a claim. Then, somewhere, I heard to check on my coverage, as I like to drive my car 2-3 times a week.....to the Post Office, grocery store, etc.....but not work.... I am retired. I called Grundy and described my driving habits and desires, and was told they don’t insure that type of use on any kind of regular basis. Apparently they only want you to drive occasionally, and not routinely to any one location. I then switched to AAA, and got a very good price, agreed value, and hardly any restrictions (only not for work).

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
I used Haggerty for years and a friend said I should try State Farm. I did and will not go back to Haggerty. The same policy for less money.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
I have had Hagerty for 7 years and never a problem. Only had one claim and it was resolved with one visit from the adjuster. I wish all my other insurance was provided by Hagerty. Good people and easy to deal with.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
I have a '25 model T roadster pu, A '29 A roadster, a '58 Austin Healey 100-6 and a '71 Chevy 4WD K10. They will not insure me unless I drop the K10 as they told me they do not cover 4WD pick ups. So, I went elsewhere.

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
I had one of my antique vehicles insured by Gulfway. My State Farm agent is great! She knows all about antique auto insurance, valuations, and limits. She cut me a quote that has better coverage at a lower price than Gulfway. I have 2 cars, a house, and one antique auto under SF. Every year I call my agent to see if she can beat JC Taylor. So far she is still a few $$ higher for the same coverage. I’m looking forward to one company holding all of my insurance. It’s easier for me to keep track of!

Re: Hagerty Car Insurance
Here is a data point for Grundy. After sitting at a dead stop for 15 seconds waiting for a gap in traffic so I could make a left turn at an intersection, a huge SUV smashed into my 1964 Riviera's rear end. It pushed the rear bumper into the rear seat and I could hear the fan hitting the radiator. I had 2 phone conversations with Grundy - one to describe the accident and one from them 2 or 3 days later to ensure my passenger and I still had no physical problems. Three weeks to the day from the accident, I received a check for the agreed value of the car. I saw Jim Grundy at this year's Hilton Head Concours and thanked him for the check! I used it to buy my Model A roadster.
Incidentally, they offered to sell me the wreck for $250. I can't say enough good things about them. |
