Default A&L Horns

I have three reproduction horns that I bought from Al Lepore (A&L). With the covers off, how can I visually determine which horn is 12V and which is 6V?

There is no visual way. Hook them to 6-volts and see if they ahooguh, if they don't, hook them to 12-volts and see if they ahooguh.

I've used this method with the Hutchins horns. 12V horn on 6v sounds like a sick cow.

Start with 6v.

If you have two horns and one is 6 volt and the other is 12 volt you can compare the windings. The 12 volt will have more windings of a smaller gauge than the 6 volt horn. The wire for the 6 volt horn is usually 20 gauge and for the 12 volt horn it is 24 gauge (smaller). The turns for the 6 volt horn are around 40 whereas for the 12 volt horn it is about 100 turns. You could measure the wire diameter. It would be impossible to measure the turns without taking the horn apart but you could estimate them.

A 6 volt one on twelve volts sounds like the recent film Cocaine Bear

Original 6-volt horn on the left, rewound 12-volt horn on the right. Note the difference in wire thickness, as "nkaminar" points out.

Are you able to post a picture of the motors of the A&L horn?

He is not banned. If he was it would say so under his name.

It did say banned, clearly, right under his name a couple of hours ago.I looked at his past posts, saw nothing to be banned for,and on every one of those he was marked banned too.I kind of figured it was a mistake and now it looks like it has been corrected.

He was BANNED and the thread was removed, that is why you can't find it. Maybe it was a warning BAN? I don't know, but as long as Bob has been on Ford Barn he should know that Ryan will not tolerate political posts.

There was that inflation thread a couple days ago that the admin deleted, I assumed it was connected to that.
