windshield glass removal
Found several threads and videos about installing new glass, but nothing about removing glass from existing frame. My glass is in good shape, but obviously in the same position as when it came from the factory. Frame is too far gone to be repairable IMO, so will get a new one. My concern is that the glass is probably so secure in its original frame that special care and/or techniques must be used to avoid damaging it in removal. Suggestions please.

Re: windshield glass removal
Have not experienced intact glass removal like your situation, but you might try laying the windshield face down on a padded work area and use a wood block and a mallet to remove the hinge top by alternately tapping up on each corner. The 2 side screws, and the screw on the face are initially removed at each corner.
Let's hope the glas was not sealed to the frame. The next step is to use the same wood block/mallet technic to push the remaining frame away from the glass. I have had to remove a freshly installed glass that was incorrectly cut And luckily I did not use sealer. Should of test dry fit first during installation. Check to see if your salvageable glass is safety glass, and if there are signs of delamination. Plate glass is a No-No, and delamination is irreversible. My video can help with the glass installation. |

Bob--
I saw parts two and three of your video, which prompted me to make this inquiry. The wood block approach was my first thought, but want input from someone with more experience. Am pretty certain I have safety glass, and there is no indication of delamination. Am confident that my local Portland Glass shop can duplicate mine if necessary. |

Re: windshield glass removal
Had excellent service from another Oregon glass shop, will pm you when I get home. Wouldn't hurt to watch all of the windshield videos. I learned something on all attempts.
The ends of the top hinge piece were distorted by hammer damage, I think I cover dressing up the hinge. Well worth the effort. |
