Default Cranckcase blow by and how to handle the stank

I took the wife out on a little ride on Christmas day. Pretty day and no traffic to spoil it. However the smell of the crankcase blow by was pretty annoying to her and a bit to me as well. Any suggestions on reduction of this unpleasantness?
I'm currently running a 39 motor with a stock 2 bbl and intake. I have an 8BA 49-53 style intake I could try with a PCV. Before I do, I thought I would get some answers from the group.
I don't want t hear about opening the windows, it makes it worse.
The best I could do was close the side windows, open the cowl vent and crack the windshield and the back window. 3 window coupe BTW.

If you use the 8BA intake the draft tube will be down below the oil pan of the engine in the airstream and make it rid of your smell.

The road draft tube on an 8BA is two pieces. An upper and lower which takes gases well behind the front axle. Had similar problem because I didn’t have the lower piece. Found some 2” heater tubing and made my own. Problem solved.

Just relocating or extending the road draft tube will not pull fumes out of the crankcase when parked at idle ( and it hardly does while moving) The crankcase fumes will migrate up thru the oil filler/breather because there is not a vacuum draw on the crankcase.
Your best bet is to use the draft tube boss on the 8BA manifold to install a PCV valve.
There are kit assemblies available such as this--------

Doesn't the 39 motor have slingers in the back ?

I do not think so, just on the front.

The simplest setup is using a Chrysler style oil filler/breather cap on the fuelpump stand. It has a 3/4" or 5/8" hose barb for running a hose to an air filter canister also fitted with a hose barb. It entrains the crankcase stink in the filter intake airflow. New breather caps are already filled with a flame-arrestor mesh. My old breather cap had a worn out mesh so I pried it open and replaced it with a Scotchbrite stainless steel scrubbing pad from the super market. Jack E/NJ

Yes, no rope seal in the rear.

Be sure you understand how a PCV system works before you attempt to install it on an engine without a rear crankshaft seal. I would not do it as it is going to draw dirty air into the engine.

also if the fuel pump stand is warped the fumes seep out between the stand and the manifold

Ya might have a leak from the exterior to the interior. On a hotrod it's a given and part of the experience also. A 8ba intake on a 21a/59a is interesting. Early motors vent from the pan. If it's really bad and not perceived, bad rings are bad. Blowby is not a normal thing.

Check to see if the baffle tube is in place under the fuel pump stand, when it is left out the crankcase ventilation is defeated and it smokes really bad.

Even fresh engines in good condition can give off crank case odors. To me, it's all part of the old car experience. Only two total cures are a real closed PCV system or nose plugs.

Johndee
Could this not be blow-by smell, but rather is exhaust fumes getting into the cabin?

Is this smell something new? You mention the blow-by smell was bothering you, not just your wife, like its something you are not used to with this car. You were out for the ride with your wife on Christmas day, so maybe was cold out, maybe using the car's heater? If so, is it the type of heater using a heat exchanger around the exhaust manifold which could be leaking?

After my car is driven, I leave the garage door open for several hours to dissipate the crank case fumes.
