Default In Memory of Spike

We lost another Ford Barner. We buried "Spike" (Denny Smith) today. He will be missed by some of us on Ford Barn and all of us in the Sparton Horn Region of MARC.

Rod,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.. I understand... my mentor of 34 years Terry Oberer passed away last august ( 2012). I miss our daily chats. I feel enormously fortunate to have had a mentor as him... and soak up as much information as possible from many. No one of us know it all... It's a learning experience every day. I can say my life is blessed every day by my Model A friends, near and afar,
Condolencses and Regards,
Larry Shepard

I never met Spike, but was trying to place him by his posts. You can do an advanced search to find posts by the name. I see Spike's first post was in 2010 and about removing his brake floaters. Spike's last post was just 3 weeks ago about his Model A air compressor for sale, a Gordon Smith compressor.

We had about 12 Model A's in his funeral procession. It was the saddest tour I have ever been on. After the gun volley to acknowledge his Navy service, the club did a simultaneous ahooga horn salute. Not many dry eyes. I am still trying to deal with this hit.

I used to visit Denny whenever I was in town from my assignment in China 2011-2014. Denny helped me greatly with my initial work on my Delivery as he had already restored a late '31 delivery. He bought the 30 off of Ebay and I remember asking him if he was really ready to tackle another one as it was clearly in Barn Find condition...he just laughed. I enjoyed seeing the progress from disassembly to restoration to reassembly each time I returned and he was nearly finished in the summer of 2013. He told me he chose the blue color for the Delivery because he was thinking of making it a "Pepsi" truck - his favorite soda pop. I knew that he had health problems, but was greatly saddened when I heard of his passing. He was definitely a positive contributor to the Model A hobby and is still missed.
