1933 3 window project with a growing listof questions
Good evening everyone, long time reader haven’t posted much here over the years, but I just bought a project that I’m sure will warrant a long list of questions. I bought a ‘33 3 window from a friend of mine. Pretty excited . But now that the reality is setting in I’m wondering where to begin . The main components are there. I’m just trying to start the process of learning what fits what, and the differences between 33 - 34 coupes. Does anyone still make reproduction sheet metal for these cars? It seems like all the big companies are focusing on ‘32s . While I would prefer to use original sheet metal I know that’s not 100% viable with swapmeets being put on hold because of the Covid. Pictures to follow but bear with me while I bombard you all with questions.

Very cool. There are posts on posting images here. Probably should have a forum sticky on it. Look forward to your posts.

congrats on having one of fords finest. as far as the differences, there are many minor details of the car, but much of the sheet metal and patch panels are the same, and available. Tom bay, RJ enterprises, makes much of it for Howels, buy from him not howels, and Steve's Auto Restoration In Oregon makes fine parts too. Lets see the car, and we can be more specific

Re: 1933 3 window project with a growing listof questions
Setting aside very early '33s, which have a number of components that differ substantially from the mainstream of '33 model production, the differences between typical '33s and '34s are significant. For example, the only piece of sheet metal forward of the cowl that is the same on both is the triangular panel behind the lower part of the grille. Apart from from the obvious difference in the hoods, the front fenders and fender aprons are different along with the panel beneath the radiator and if you want originality, the reproduction components are '34s, not '33s (although they will fit). However, good original bolt-on '33 sheet metal isn't that difficult to find with a little effort.
As for the 3-window coupe bodies, the cowls, cowl vents, doors, door glass, window regulators, door latches, door garnish moldings, dash/instrument panel, ash tray (on deluxe bodies), seat tracks and seat adjustment, headlining, and configuration of the rear fender wells are all notably different. Depending on your objective, the differences in the chassis are also considerable. |
