On the previous page, you have two photos from the days of beach racing at Daytona Beach, Fla.
In the first one, of Jack Bowsher, #21, you can definately see the ocean, in the background.
The second photo, where the cars missed the turn, is the south turn, where the cars came off the paved road, onto the sand, Many just hit the turn too fast.
Southbound was the paved Rte. 1 and northbound, of the loop was the sandy beach. The whole loop was about five miles.
This was the birthplace of NASCAR. The last beach race was in 1958.
