Gland rings
Are the gland rings for the manifold required ? I am using a two set copper gasket with bolt holes and read if using this no rings required. Bratton's are out of stock. Sorry, My last post on this subject. Thanks, J.D.

Re: Gland rings
Some swear by them, others swear at them. I've done it both ways and currently do not have them installed and have no problems. I'm using the one piece "silver" gasket.

Quote:
During the time of the model A they had them, dropped them, added them again. Two main problems with the; 1) sagging manifolds so the rings will not line up. 2) milled manifold/block so the recess is not deep enough for the rings.

Re: Gland rings
I would always use them when possible. They make a smoother air flow and keep much of hte heat off the gasket edge. I can only used 3 on my Phaeton, as the rear droops a little too much.

Re: Gland rings
I don't use them. At this point its more of a personal preference thing.

Re: Gland rings
I'm sick of them corroding and shriveling and having to fish them out of the muffler. I even tried some home fabricated SS ones.

Re: Gland rings
They are necessary. The manifold will warp/misalign over time and leaks will develop.

Re: Gland rings
I would never run without them. If they were not meant to be there, or did not function, Ford would have never used them.
