Default Horn problem 39 pickup

Over the past few years I have been having off/on problem with the horn. I replaced the wiring and electrics at the base of the steering column. The horn sound now started to get week and finally quit. Horn works fine when I bypass the system. Anyone have suggests short of installing a dash horn button

I've been working on same problem on my 35 Peacup. Will know tomorrow if I have it fixed. Wish me luck. If I get it fixed I will post what the trouble was.

Something is not making good contact. Could be the relay, the connection inside the light control switch, the horn button, etc. Try grounding the horn relay on the terminal that connects to the horn button, that will tell you if it's the relay or not.

Isn't the relay built in (integral) to the horn in '39?

Beats me Kube, LOL. If it is guess that fairly well eliminates that!!! The wiring diagram makes it look like it is external, BUT? Would guess the 39 pickup would be similar to the 39 standard. If they were using 38 holdover parts, it looks the same. But, again the diagrams are often only a guide.

I do know the '40 pickup had the relay built within the single horn. Not certain about the '39 pickup but would hazard a guess and say that most likely, it was similar to the '40.

The '39 standard utilized the same horn set (pair) as the deluxe models and did in fact utilize an external horn relay.

Yeah, I didn't think it would have one. The "relay" is integral of the horn.

The two wires going to the horn are on my 39 blue/black going to the hornswitch and a thicker yellow being power.
Start by grounding the cable on the horn that had the blue/black connected if it sounds that tell you the powerfeed is ok.
Next take the lightswitch apart and ground the center cable if it sounds all cables are ok.
That leaves you with bad contacts so clean and inspect the middle contact in the lightswitch.
