Depends on what region of the country you live in.

Here is a web site that tells you where to buy ethanol free gas in the U.S. and Canada: http://pure-gas.org/

I agree Old Henry. I use this website a lot when traveling. I try to stay away from the ethanol-laced stuff if I can.

Here in Arizona we use to endure the ethanol fuel durning the winter months, Nov thru March. My question is: are they now forcing use to use ethanol fuel year round ?

Ethenol pretty much every where now, tough to find easy solution without going out of the way. I think the really bad stuff is the E15, ridicules that the EPA approves it as most car manufacturers will not honor the engine warranty if used and it damages your engine.

Avgas also contains lead.

It is also at least 100 octane, I think.

You may be thinking of oxygenated gas which we used to have here in the winter to reduce emissions. Although that is seasonal, as far as I know ethanol is not. If it's at a station it is there year round.

The downside of buying the ethanol free gas is that it's is usually not "Top Tier Gas"*, at least in my area, for what that's worth. So, there's a trade-off. Now that I have my back up electric fuel pump I don't really need to worry about ethanol that mostly just causes vapor lock.

There are different grades of AV gas. Don't know if its ethanol free or not

FBOs cannot lawfully sell avgas to car guys because there's no "road-use" taxes paid at time of purchase, FWIW. It's extremely rare to find anything other than 100LL avgas anywhere today. DD

Here in Michigan we get our leaded gas from Lanes Automotive, and it's only $7.89 per gallon for 110 octane. 112 octane is another dollar per gallon.

In Northern Michigan we have recreational fuel and it has no ethanol in it at all. I'm 60 miles from the Mackinaw Bridge. My car runs great !

For any considering using leaded gas on public roads, you should know that "the Clean Air Act of January 1, 1996 banned the sale of leaded fuel for use in on-road vehicles. Possession and use of leaded gasoline in a regular on-road vehicle now carries a maximum $10,000 fine in the United States. However, fuel containing lead may continue to be sold for off-road uses, including aircraft, racing cars, farm equipment, and marine engines." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antiknock_agent

After going to the Top Tier website and listening to their explanation of what Top Tier is it seems to me that it is geared toward electronic fuel injected cars. Am I right or wrong on this?

That is not my impression. The effect of the fuel on fuel injectors is just one of 5 standards that must be met. All standards combined are for this purpose quoted from their web site: "Currently, many gasoline retailers provide fuels with lower-quality additive packages that can build up deposits on fuel injectors and on intake valves. Others can build up deposits in combustion chambers and may lead to intake valve sticking. These lower levels of additives can have negative impacts on engine performance and vehicle responsiveness. . . . TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces engine performance. That's something both drivers and automakers want to avoid."

That's why I buy it.

Like it or not, your going to have to live with ethanol because it is the law.

It's about time to stop complaining and do what is necessary for your cars to run on it.

We've had ethanol gas here in NJ for years. I have four old cars (some repowered) and have run on ethanol gas for all that time and cannot find any problems with my cars because of it. I made sure all related items were ethanol proof.

Time to bite the bullet and get on with life.

Thanks Paul. That wasn't helpful to the poster's question.

Shell sells ethanol-free fuel in my area. Maybe yours too.

Pure-gas.org does not list any stations that sell ethanol-free fuel anywhere in New Jersey. So, that may be why Paul is biting bullets.
