Default Antique plates

Can anyone tell me how to go about getting the 1931 original plates for my 31 model A? The DMV told me if i found one, Indiana only has one license plate. I had to fill out some form and bring it back to them and I could display that one on my car. I've seen them on other cars and they look so good I gotta get one but I'm not sure where to look or the procedure or what it takes to make it legal.

Find a plate at a swap meet, clear it through the DMV, process the proper paperwork, and you're good to go.

I have seen a lot of brand-new looking plates. Do you know if there Is there a place online you can buy them? They have to be a legitimate plate issued for that year and your state don't they? I know, I need patients but i want it now dang it... <):^D

I found a nice original 1928 Montana plate on eBay. The cost depends on the condition, and how rare your year and state is. Mine cost around $75 IIRC.

As far as being legal, it isn't....but, you're unlikely to have any problems, as long as the proper issued plate is also displayed. This doesn't mean you won't have a problem with an individual policeman who will make an issue out of it, but the majority of cops will understand why you have a vintage plate on your vintage car, and will let it slide.

Make sure you have the tools to take it off, on the spot.

Be nice, don't be a jerk.

(Put it back on later.)

There was a guy at Kerrville who lives in Vernon TX. He restores old plates, and sells them. I don't have my phone handy, I'll get his info and post it soon, Maybe someone knows who I'm referring to.

Gerald Thiele, 940-357-0387. He just did a set of 31 Texas plates for me, They had rust pits and a tear. They now look just like when they left the prison. Very reasonable.

There are (5) 1931 Indiana license plates on Ebay right now. Duane Wells "Duane's License Plate Restoration" just restored mine. He is in Lansing, MI. 517-371-3225. [email protected]

Rocky I fully realize you have found a plate....
But Indianapolis Craigslist on June 17 has a guy in Caramel with a slew of plates
Including 4 from 1931.
Good luck with your project

Rules for Indiana in the link. Look at the "Authentic Model Year License Plate" section

Wouldn’t that be cool if you happens to find a plate that was close or had your car Vin number? I’ll check Craigslist out Gil. THANK YOU!
