Default Title but doesn't state the year...early ford truck.

Trying to sort out some title issues with an estate.

This title is suppose to be to a 1940 possibly a 1941 ford pickup.

The problem is, there is no year stated just the serial number and weight of 5000 lbs.

Number is 1859257**

There is also a chrysler that didnt have a year, just coupe. Was able to match it to other paperwork and it is a 1948.

Why would they be titled this way? All were issued in the 1960s

That pick-up shows to be a '41 serial #. DD

When you search that number, did ford use a specific run of numbers for cars then trucks. Or does that number fall into the year of 1941?

It falls into the year of '41. I've always understood that the light pick-ups and CARS were numbered out of the same groups of numbers. The '41 numbers begin with # 18-5896295 and run to # 18-6769035. DD

Not all local motor vehicle registration employees were the same back in the day. It could have been a Monday or a Friday or an employee that just wouldn't retire until they ran them off or they died. It should have a block for the model year on most titles even way back but you never know. The make and ID number were always the most important part. The rest of it might be anybody's guess. In Texas they just used either 2dr or 4dr for cars and seldom had a model number or body type on there.

Above FORD TRK in small print is make model and date originally titled.
Its a Pennsylvania title and they use title services so they should know, then they send it into the state for change of name ect.

With the serial number it shouldn't be a issue getting the year on the new title.

Each State had (and still does) it's own way of doing things. Each individual branch probably had it's own way about interpreting them also. JMO
Still holds true today.
