Default Starter cleanup

I have a starter to put in my 60hp, it has been laying around for years, I will tear it apart, check the fields and brushes, etc. My question is do I lubricate the bendix or leave it dry?

Dry or spray graphite.

Also, if you can get access to a "growler", you should test the armature. Also, check the brushes that are soldered into the field coils; I had a starter that had a "cold solder" joint on one. It worked, but turned at about half speed.
