Re: front brake issues
Purdy, how about a picture like the one I took so we can see what the difference is.

Re: front brake issues
Purdy, I just took a drum off my survivor 29 coupe and the rollers rest on the wedge washers just like the ones I'm working on. I think the ones you have are wrong or modified.

Re: front brake issues
Also my pin heads are clearly lying. On the track correctly. Shoes have full contact when going on. These drums appear to have never been turned. My buddy cam over last night with his mic and he couldn't believe how thick they were.

More pictures
Here are some pictures with measurements of the adjusting wedge and the depth of the hole it fits into.

Re: front brake issues
I see now what everybody is talking about. I went out and picked a used one off the shelf and it turns out to be an oddball. I was going to take more pictures to try and show what I was talking about. I checked my can of used front brake wedge assemblies and see that the style wedge washes that you have are like the ones in my can . The ones that I pictured above have round wedge washers and must have a small inside taper because the rollers slightly go under them. The brake shoe rollers won' t go under the style washers that you have they are too wide. I'm embarrassed, I was way off. After looking at the odd ball one that I had, I was just sure that the pin heads were off the tracks, causing the shoes to ride low. Anyway, no harm meant. Good that its now fixed.

Re: front brake issues
Well Purdy I went and looked at the one I took the picture of and it has the round washers like yours not the ones like Vanspeed's so now I'm really confused.

Re: front brake issues
The were changed, probably during 1929. I haven't cared to narrow down the time as it isn't important to me.

Re: front brake issues
The ones they show in the 1932 parts book are the oblong ones. Maybe
the round ones are earlier. Bob |
